Welcome to Primary 3's class page!

Term 2

Primary 3 are looking forwards to an exciting Term 2 with lots of celebrations and festive activities in the weeks ahead. This will be kicking off with our PTA Halloween disco, Halloween themed Infant department Structured Play session as well as lots of fun activities in class.

Literacy

During the month of November, we will be looking at reading for pleasure and look forward to the release of the Scottish Book trusts, Read, Write, Cout bags and sharing our favourite stories with each other. We also can't wait to have our adults in to read a book (or two) with us at the Come and Read open afternoon.

As always, we will continue to focus on learning new phonemes and using these to help us read and write, as well as working on learning to read and spell our common words. In writing we will finish looking at what makes a good narrative before moving on to another type of text.

Numeracy

This term, we will look at subtraction and investigate different mental strategies which we can use to take away during our Number talks discussions and look at written methods. This term we will also investigate measure through practical activities.

Health & Wellbeing

This term we will be looking at Road Safety and looking at the red cog from the Emotion Works programme.

Term 1

Welcome to Primary 3’s class page!  We are settling back into the routines of school and are keen to go on some new learning adventures this term!

Numeracy
This term we are beginning by looking at the properties of various 2D shapes as well as revising our addition skills from last year.  The groups will also be looking to further their mental addition skills through our Number talks sessions.

Literacy

As we start the new school year, we are going to be spending some time consolidating previously taught sounds and common words before moving onto new sounds.  Lots of active spelling activities will take place in class to help us revise these.  We will also continue to develop our reading skills with new reading books and a focus on comprehension to ensure we are understanding fully what we have read.

We will begin our writing block this year by using our PM description bubble to revise writing a description.

Health & Wellbeing

This year our P.E days will be on a Tuesday & Thursday.

We begin this term by looking at ways to keep ourselves safe and exploring different words to describe our emotions through the orange cog from the Emotion Works Programme.
