Mrs Bryceland P2/3
Welcome to Primary 2/3's class page!
Term 1
P2/3
I would like to welcome your child to P2/3 and I am looking forward to teaching them. A few reminders are P E is Tuesday and Friday and can your child have the appropriate P E kit. This consists of a white t shirt, black shorts and sturdy footwear so the children can easily run about. They must also have indoor shoes for the classroom.
Literacy
Primary 2 will be focusing on double phonemes starting with the ay phoneme and they will also be learning common words. They will have a sheet of words in their folders which will be coloured yellow for the words of the week. They will also be learning about nouns, verbs and adjectives in grammar. They will be developing their sentence writing and will be working on description in their writing based on characters from books and the topic we are going to cover. We will be focusing on our reading books to develop fluency and reading comprehension.
Primary 3 will continue with their double sounds and common words to finish of Primary 2 words and sounds with a view to moving onto the Primary 3 spelling scheme. They will be revising nouns, verbs and adjectives in grammar. We will then move on to comparison of adjectives and verb tenses. In writing the children will also be describing characters from books and our topics and we will be introducing more description into their work using our description bubbles and paragraphs. In reading we will be focusing on understanding the text and introducing reading strategies.
Numeracy
Primary 2 will be revising addition to 10 and then we will be working on addition to 20 using vertical and horizontal sums. We will also be working on missing number sums which is a tricky concept. We will be subtracting within 20 using both vertical and horizontal sums.
Primary 3 will be revising addition to 20 and then we will be learning about addition up to 100 using vertical and horizontal addition. We will also be introducing the concept of carrying a ten to the next column. We will also be covering shape both 2D and 3D and learning about their properties.
Other Areas
P2/3 will be working with P1/2 to work on their topics we will be learning about Scotland though the use of books linking to the different topics. In PE we are working on ball skills catching, throwing and football skills which I think the children will enjoy.
