Welcome to our Primary 5 class page!

We will keep you updated here with everything we are getting up to throughout the year.

Primary 5

Term 1
The children have settled in well to the new routines in Primary 5. They are enjoying the new layout of their classroom and being involved in the organisation of the class.

Literacy
Within Literacy, we have started by reading ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ as our whole class novel. We will be using this novel to introduce our new reading strategies and will work on these as a class to build confidence and independence.
Primary 5 have enjoyed visiting the school library and choosing a personal reader to use during ERIC (Everyone Reading In Class). The children will be receiving their group readers shortly, these will be used for additional comprehension work.
This term our writing focus will be description and descriptive texts. We will be using the descriptive bubble to describe a variety of characters and settings. Primary 5 will be learning how to self and peer assess writing and will use two stars and a wish to assess writing against the created success criteria.

Numeracy
In Numeracy, we have started our first block on place value and number processes to 100,000. We will begin our ‘Number Talks’ sessions where we will use a range of strategies to build confidence in mental maths. Primary 5 will then move onto addition and subtraction as well as time. We will continue working on our times tables consistently throughout the year to build confidence and quick recall.

Health and Wellbeing
Our P.E. days will be a Wednesday and Thursday. Children should bring in their P.E. kit to change into in school. This should be black bottoms (leggings, shorts) and a white t-shirt or polo shirt.
We have started our block on Hockey and will be working on our dribbling, grip, controlling the ball, tackles and shooting. Primary 5 have been enjoying developing their skills within hockey and are looking forward to our tournament at the end of the block.
