Term Two
It is hard to believe we are already in Term Two and zooming towards Christmas. We have had an incredibly busy start to the term with the highlight so far being our amazing school trip to the Science Centre. We are looking forward to another busy term with lots of exciting opportunities planned.
Literacy
We are looking forward to Scottish Book Week in November when we will be celebrating Scottish Authors and the love of reading. We will study the style and language used by historical Scottish authors but also study more up to date writers. We will have a chance to write our own Scottish themed poems and stories. We are looking forward to welcoming families in to read alongside us in Friday the 21st of November.
We enjoyed reading Kaspar Prince of Cats as a class and we were able to use this as a context for our active reading strategies. Now that we have completed this book, we will now be reading our class novel called Kensuke’s Kingdom. We will use this as a novel to enjoy as a class but use the strategies we have already learned, independently, with our group novels.
Our spelling work is progressing well and our active spelling strategies are being used at home and in school. The vocabulary is becoming more complex and we are beginning to study the origin and the root of words. Sumdog has proved to be a great resource and the children are loving the variety of games, challenges and spelling programmes.
We have recently completed a block of writing information reports, culminating in the children writing an information report of their own choosing. I was delighted with their efforts and the finished product demonstrated a super level of skill and understanding. This term we will be focusing on writing an explanation and I look forward to seeing similar results.
Numeracy
Our focus for term two will be information handling, decimals within the context of money and 24hr time. We continue to use Number Talks as a way of encouraging active mental strategies. We have another Sumdog, maths challenge planned which will involve competing online against other school across South Lanarkshire. This is always an exciting challenge and one which I am sure we will do well in.
HWB
P.E will soon become a time for practising Scottish Christmas Dances in preparation for our Christmas Party on the afternoon of Tuesday the 16th of December. As a class we will be continuing to use our Emotion Works programme to look at the triggers to our behaviour and how to cope successfully when we come across these.
Other
Mrs Skalley is in class on a Thursday afternoon. She has been busy using Adobe Express with the children and we are looking forward to a Pizza Party provided by Adobe Express as a reward for their hard work. We will continue to highlight the importance of staying safe online through Kooth and CEOP lessons as well as using Scratch and Microsoft Software.
Christmas is fast approaching and the children have made great start to their Christmas Craft for the Christmas Fayre on the 28th of December. Our Christmas songs are well underway and we look forward to performing them at our Christmas Carol Concerts on the 10th and 11th of December.
